a welcome find

Review Date: April 11, 2008
Reviewer: Elen Hawke, Oxford UK
As a stock photographer myself, I've wanted to find more about microstock photography, but there is little information online and I had never seen a book on the subject before this one. Consequently I read Douglas Freer's book with excitement and enthusuasm. I was not disappointed. This book is a gem. It is written in an easy read but informative style and is lavishly but relevantly illustrated. It's a grandiose claim to say that you will find all the information you need to become a successful microstock photographer within its pages, yet I can honestly say that I don't see what else could have been added. The book covers everything from equipment and subject matter to the microstocks themselves and how to submit your images in a way that gives you the best chances of acceptance. Thank you Douglas for such a well written, fun and enlightening read.
Not sugar coated.

Reviewer: But I'm feeling much better now..., Chicago, IL United States
I had thought that I could make a couple of hundred dollars a month with the 100 or so images I have that I would consider salable.' To keep it short, this book explains the work involved in preparing and submitting images, and the need for thousands of submissions to make any real money ($2000/month) for what amounts to a full time job, not an extension of a hobby. The book is much more than a 'how-to' book, and if you're just interested in making a few extra dollars on the side, like me, I highly recommend you buy it to get the truth about the business.
Great guide for selling stock photography

Review Date: January 16, 2009
Reviewer: N. Prescott,
This book offers a practical approach to microstock photography. The author gives a comprehensive look at the sales models, license and royalties information of the 4 major microstock companies to help you make your decision on how to effectively market your photos. I found the chapters on what sells and what does not and how to make your pictures win very useful. It includes case studies of contributing microstock photographers, which shows a realistic look at what it takes to make money with stock photography.
Great book for microstock photographers

This book is as advertised. I've been submitting images to microstocks for about five months now, and Freer's book is chock-full of useful tips and ideas to help me take my microstock efforts to the next level. Highly recommended.
Excellent step-by-step guide

I'm an ameteur photographer and have been curious about how to sell my photos to the microstock agencies for some time. This book explains it all -- what sells, what doesn't, how to get started, how to navigate the submission rules/standards of the various agencies, etc. Good practical guidance, well-written and thorough.
